A deadly 7.5 magnitude earthquake and tsunami hit Palu, the provincial capital of Indonesia, September 28, 2018. Authorities raised the toll to 1,350 dead and is expected to rise as hundred of victims are still missing and some remote areas have not been reached.

Indonesia National Disaster Agency reported that Soil Liquefication occurred during the earthquake leaving thousands of people homeless. An estimate of 2.4 million people were affected by the disaster. Landslide, damaged roads, collapsed buildings and broken telecommunication makes it difficult for rescuers to reach the affected areas. Relief Operations Agencies are having difficulties due to the main airport being damaged.

United Nations has said that the need for aid is great in Indonesia and has also called on children’s charity UNICEF to get involved
Lack of heavy lifting equipment hinders the rescuers in helping the people that have been trapped. Food and clean water are also running low on supplies, making the victims raid supermarkets and convenience stores.
